Class Visits
Book Talks
Are your students in a reading rut? Would you like to introduce them to a new genre or subject area? Our Book Talks are designed to help! These entertaining previews of fiction and nonfiction books will leave your students asking for more. You can specify the genre, subject area, or format you would like us to promote, or we are happy to come up with a variety sure to please a range of readers. Book Talks can last anywhere from 10 to 30 minutes, depending on your classroom needs.
Storytimes
Reading aloud is one of the best ways to help students feel a connection to books and inspire them to read on their own. We have a wonderful collection of fiction and nonfiction picture books to share with students of all ages. Storytimes usually last 20 to 30 minutes.
Library Tours
A library tour can strengthen familiarity and student confidence in utilizing the library. You can choose either a Youth Services or whole library tour. The Youth Services tour focuses on our juvenile collections and is designed to empower students to browse for books on their own. The whole library tour introduces students to the Youth Services area as well as our other Public Service areas, from the Technology Center and Creation Station to the DVD collections and self-checkout computers.
Digital Downloads Introduction
There are many ways to read a book. We want children to find the medium that works best for them. Let us show your students how to access e-books and audiobooks via computers, tablets, e-readers, and smartphones for free. All they need is a library card and the Overdrive Media Console app. To browse available titles, visit www.bexleylibrary.org and click on the Download ebooks, audiobooks, & digital magazines link at the top left-hand side of the page.
Online Resources Instruction
The library subscribes to a number of valuable research databases and online resources that you and your students can access for free with a library card. Schedule a talk or visit to help students learn about using these powerful resources.
Teacher Resources
Teacher Collections
We know you have enough to do without sifting through the library catalog for books. Let us help by putting together a Teacher Collection to compliment the curriculum and enhance your lesson plans. Teacher Collection requests can be submitted in-person, over the phone, or through the online form.
Educator Cards
To make it easier for you to get library resources into the classroom and the hands of your students, Educator Cards are available to eligible teachers, homeschoolers, and daycare providers in Franklin County. To register, you must have a personal Bexley Public Library card in good standing, as well as proof of current teaching status.
Student Resources
Library Cards for Students
We believe library cards are life-changing resources, which is why we hope every student in the Bexley City Schools district is able to have his or her own library card. Because it is difficult for some families to make it to the library together and because minors need a parent or legal guardian’s signature to obtain a library card, many children are left without this valuable tool.If you have a student in your classroom without a library card, please email for a special registration form that can be sent home with your student and returned to you at school. We will pick up completed forms and drop-off library cards at the school office.
