Sean McKay of Franklin Park Conservatory will show you how to harvest and save seeds. Saving your own seeds is less expensive than purchasing new seed packets or grown transplants from the store.
Learn how to harvest seeds from Sean McKay of Franklin Park Conservatory & Botanical Gardens. Seed saving is a simple method of propagation for home gardeners that consists of collecting the seeds that plants produce and saving them to sow the following year. Saving your own seeds is less expensive than purchasing new seed packets or grown transplants from the store AND can be added to the BPL Seed Library for the community to enjoy.

Sean McKay is the Growing to Green Coordinator at Franklin Park Conservatory & Botanical Gardens. Growing to Green is a free community garden program for Central Ohio providing technical assistance, advocacy, volunteerism, grant administration, and development. Growing to Green was first started in 2000 as part of the Community Outreach and Education Department. Sean started last year with a degree in landscape design and management from Columbus State Community College, where he is also an adjunct professor. Sean also graduated from The Ohio State University with a Bachelor's in Agriculture, with a specialization in Horticulture and a minor in Landscape Architecture. He is currently in OSU's graduate program studying Agricultural Communication, Education, and Leadership with a specialization in Community Outreach and Extension Education. Every morning before going to work, Sean volunteers for a nonprofit he founded called the Garden District Corporation. Their mission is to empower people to grow their own food and share access to food pantries to provide more access to fresh produce. Every year they average over 2000 pounds of over 128 varieties of fresh produce including herbs, fruits, vegetables and greens.
